Our Story

The Alonzo A.  Crim Entrepreneurship pilot program was birthed due to the needs of the students of Crim High School. After much evaluation of what were some of the biggest barriers to student attendance, we concluded that there were 5 major areas which stood in our students' way:  Basic needs, mental health, job accessibility, college and career readiness, and parent and community engagement. We realized that as a small school we needed help from our neighboring community in order to meet these needs. We hosted a Breaking the Barrier Summit and invited the community to assist us in supporting our students. Through the generous donations of one of our partners, HOWINCC and the support of the Atlanta Families' Award for Excellence, new couches that were slightly damaged through shipping and handling, i.e. broken legs, arms, etc.  were donated to the school under the premise that our students could develop a school based enterprise in which they could repair, market and receive donations for the couches that could then be used to supplant the many needs throughout the building.

On May 18th, we will be hosting our first Silent Auction, "Couches for a Cause", and everyone is invited to come and take a look at the awesome handiwork of our students and the business they have developed. Patrons will have the opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of furniture for their home, or a piece to donate to a needy family within the community. All monetary gifts will provide scholarships, food, clothing, and general care to the students of Crim High School.
